The UK is the country where we’ve probably spent the most time of all the places we’ve visited so far, but unfortunately not as tourists but to earn a living. Which leaves us feeling terribly unsatisfied! The phenomenal and unique atmosphere of the British Isles stays with you for a long time. There, you can really feel that certain something in the air – that special quality of the place, which is unlike any other in the world. And that’s precisely why it’s yet another country high on our list of places to visit, and we probably won’t wait until retirement to go there…

So far, we’ve seen – and I, in particular, have seen – London quite thoroughly. And it’s definitely right up there among the most interesting and attractive major cities in the world (and we’ve seen quite a few of them). I think it was in the UK’s capital that I caught the bug for exploring ordinary city streets, where nothing extraordinary happens, but what goes on day to day is actually the most interesting! Of course, we also visited highlights such as Tower Bridge and the Natural History Museum (by the way, free entry to museums is brilliant!) and they’re truly impressive.

Apart from that, I spent loads of time in the English countryside of the Midlands, where I focused mainly on exploring the institution that is the traditional pub, but events such as the huge weekly flea market or the Sunday League football matches make it very easy to fall in love with England. And that green English landscape, straight out of a BBC production, simply won’t let you remain indifferent to it.
Magda, on the other hand, spent just a long weekend in the UK, and that was in only one city, Southampton – and, to top it all, it was partly for work – but she has very fond memories of that trip and is also keen for sooooo much more….
